Professional Union of Industrial, Municipal Household Services, and Entrepreneurship Workers

According to archival data—specifically, Protocol No. 12 of the Presidium meeting of the Regional Local Committee dated June 13, 1925—the first item on the agenda was: “Drafting a plan for the six-year anniversary celebration of the Municipal Workers’ Union. The date of this celebration is set for July 13.” Therefore, the founding date of the Municipal Workers’ Union is considered July 13, 1919.
Thanks to the efforts of trade union leaders, on July 17, 1938, in the city of Frunze, the First City Conference of the Trade Union of City Enterprise Workers was held, organized by the City Committee of the Trade Union of City Enterprise Workers. This committee included only seven enterprises from the local industry and municipal services system.
On October 29, 1939, the City Committee of the Trade Union of City Enterprise Workers was reorganized into the Republican Committee of the Trade Union of City Enterprise Workers of the Kyrgyz SSR. It retained this name until 1941.
In 1960, the Republican Committee of the Trade Union of Municipal Workers was renamed the Republican Committee of the Trade Union of Local Industry and Municipal Services Workers, which continued its activities until 1963.
In 1963, following the abolition of the Ministry of Local Industry and the emergence of the Ministry of Municipal Services and the Main Directorate of Consumer Services for the Population, the Republican Committee of the Trade Union of Local Industry and Municipal Services Workers was renamed the Republican Committee of the Trade Union of Municipal and Consumer Services Workers.
On October 25, 1986, in accordance with a resolution of the First Plenum of the Central Committee of trade unions, the above-mentioned committee was renamed the Republican Committee of the Trade Union of Local Industry and Municipal-Consumer Services Workers.
One of the main tasks of the professional union is to protect the rights and interests of workers and to strive for improved working and living conditions. Trade unions actively participate in resolving social and everyday issues, monitor compliance with labor legislation, and oversee workplace safety and industrial sanitation in production associations and organizations, as well as settle labor disputes.
Industry committee offices are present in several regions of the Kyrgyz Republic, with a membership of 20,500 people as of February 2024.
The Central Committee of the trade union is a member organization of the International Association of Trade Unions of Housing and Communal Services, Local Industry, and the Service Sector (IATU).
Since 2023, it has also been a member organization of IndustriALL Global Union, representing the interests of more than 50 million workers in 140 countries worldwide.
