Trade Union of Forest, Ecology, and Tourism Workers of Kyrgyzstan
The Central Committee of the Trade Union of Forest, Paper, and Woodworking Industry Workers was formed on January 5, 1972, at the First Conference of the Trade Union of Forest, Paper, and Woodworking Industry Workers of the Kyrgyz SSR.
The first chairperson of the Kyrgyz Republican Committee, elected at this founding conference, was Asankhodzhaev Karybay Malaevich, who headed it continuously for 33 years, until 2004. At the initial stage, the union had more than 12,000 members.
Like other unions, the sectoral union’s primary goal was and remains the protection of the social and economic interests and labor rights of workers in Kyrgyzstan’s forestry sector.
After the collapse of the USSR in 1992, the sectoral union was renamed the Trade Union of Forestry Workers of the Kyrgyz Republic.
From 2004, Kanatbek Dosbaevich Osmonov served as chairperson of the Trade Union of Forestry Workers of the Kyrgyz Republic.
As of January 19, 2024, the union is chaired by Ayazbek Abdymanapovich Kydyrgychev.
When the sectoral union was established in 1972, it comprised more than 40 primary trade union organizations. By early 2013, the sectoral union united more than 90 primary organizations within the forestry industry, environmental protection, nature reserves, national parks, and other institutions and enterprises.
The union includes enterprises that protect such locations known nationally and internationally for their natural beauty as Arslanbap, Sary-Chelek, Kara-Alma, Kyzyl-Unkur, the mountain forests surrounding Lake Issyk-Kul, and others.
The sectoral union conducts certain activities aimed at developing the international trade union movement.
It actively cooperates with the Building and Wood Workers’ International (BWI) and with the Federation of Forestry Workers’ Trade Unions of CIS countries. Representatives of Kyrgyzstan’s Forestry Workers’ Trade Union participate actively in events held by these international trade union organizations.
