As the largest national trade union center in Kyrgyzstan, the Federation of Trade Unions of Kyrgyzstan (FTUK) represents the interests of workers in the International Labour Organization (ILO), which unites 185 member countries. It cooperates with organizations among foreign national trade union centers and international organizations, including those within the UN system. Cooperation has been established with the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), the General Confederation of Trade Unions (GCTU), the Council of Trade Unions of Central Asia (CTUCA), the Solidarity Center, and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.

Another priority for the Federation is to strengthen cooperation and renew membership in international organizations, as well as to motivate its affiliated organizations to join international trade union associations.

The Federation has signed memoranda of understanding and cooperation with foreign trade union centers, including the Confederation of Turkish Public Servants’ Trade Unions (MEMUR-SEN), the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Tajikistan, the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan, and others.

International and interregional activities of the Federation of Trade Unions of Kyrgyzstan are focused on the following key tasks:
  • Improving the experience of trade union work in the country by incorporating practices from foreign trade union centers.

  • Providing support to trade unions of other countries in the struggle for workers’ rights.

  • Strengthening the role of Kyrgyzstan’s trade unions in the global trade union movement.

    Key Events of 2023:

    • IX Congress of the GCTU in Moscow: Delegates from Kyrgyzstan were elected to the governing bodies of the GCTU.
    • II Congress of the Council of Trade Unions of Central Asia in Tashkent: FTUK became a full member of the organization and signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the trade unions of Uzbekistan.
    • A meeting with representatives of the ILO and the European Commission.
    • International conferences in Nur-Sultan and Almaty: discussions focused on emerging from the economic crisis and the role of trade unions in digital transformations.
    • Training sessions and seminars within the framework of ILO projects on the transition from the informal to the formal economy and issues of decent work.
